Tottenham defender Ashley Phillips has joined Championship side Plymouth Argyle on loan for the rest of the season, the club have confirmed.
The highly-rated England U19 international joined Spurs from boyhood club Blackburn Rovers in a deal worth around £3m this summer but has not made a senior appearance, albeit an injury picked up while representing his country at youth level did not help matters.
Despite the absences of both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven at times this season, the teenager was limited to only four outings across the EFL Trophy and Tottenham’s U21 side.

Phillips will now see out the rest of the campaign back down in the Championship, having broken into the Blackburn first-team there last season.
His exit comes at a time when Spurs are looking to recruit defensively. Standard Sport understands the club remain in talks with Genoa over a move for Romanian international Radu Dragusin and hope to conclude a deal this week.
Eric Dier, meanwhile, has agreed terms to join Bayern Munich. The German giants still need to reach a fee for the defender, who is out of contract this summer.
Elsewhere, Spurs are closing in on the signing of RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner.
A deal has been struck to sign the former Chelsea striker on a six-month loan deal, including an option to buy at the end of the season worth around €15-20million.
