Tottenham supporters show classy touch by helping out Dane Scarlett during Portsmouth loan move

Some of the Tottenham Hotspur fans have given their help to ensure the club's teenage starlet Dane Scarlett enjoys the best possible loan experience at Portsmouth.

The 18-year-old England U19 international, who has been hailed by Spurs boss Antonio Conte as having a brilliant future ahead in the game, is enjoying his first taste of regular senior football after making a season-long loan move to League One side Portsmouth. Scarlett has so far made three appearances for the south coast club in the first fortnight of the season including 62 minutes after starting in the 3-0 win at Cardiff on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup.

Off the pitch, the teenager has also received a boost from Tottenham fans because the Portsmouth Spurs Official Supporters' Club, chaired by Chris and Anna Baker, have raised among their members £850 to sponsor Scarlett, with all of the supporters' club getting involved.

That boost of funds will go towards the League One club's cost of Scarlett's kit for the season, the training facilities he will use and his travel to and from games. In return the Spurs supporters' club will have their logo displayed on Portsmouth's big screen at Fratton Park and in the home matchday programmes as well as an invite to the end of season sponsors' evening where they will meet Scarlett and receive a signed match-worn shirt.

"We wanted to show Dane some love, to make him feel at home on the south coast," said Lee Hickley, treasurer of the Portsmouth Spurs Official Supporters' Club. "As a group we wanted to do something big to show a young talent it’s not just the first team players we love.

"Being a Portsmouth-based Spurs official supporters' club it was a no brainier to get involved as he's one of our own and will help to spread awareness of our club in a uniquely positive way."
