Richarlison and Ben Davies have both withdrawn from international duty, with Tottenham braced for a potential double injury blow.
A draw with Southampton over the weekend was most notable for the outburst from Antonio Conte after the match, with the Spurs boss set to lose his job over the international break and bring his increasingly fractious relationship with the club to an end.
However, the problems began before that rant and even before James Ward-Prowse’s stoppage-time penalty to make it 3-3, with Richarlison and Ben Davies both picking up injuries before half-time.
It’s believed Richarlison initially suffered a problem in the warm-up, but started the match and was then forced off inside five minutes as he left the pitch in tears. It has been confirmed that he will now not join up with Brazil for their friendly against Morocco in Tangier on Saturday.
Davies went down with what appeared to be a hamstring injury and was replaced by Ivan Perisic, and he too will now remain at Spurs over the next fortnight. The defender has withdrawn from the Wales squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Croatia and Latvia.
The pair will be assessed by Tottenham later this week to determine the severity of the issues and what roles they will be able to play in the final ten matches of the season.
With Spurs out of all cup competitions, the focus is now fully on the Premier League and trying to secure Champions League football for next season. The club currently sit fourth in the table, two points ahead of Newcastle but they have played two games more than the Magpies.
