Tottenham stance on Gabriel Jesus transfer bid as Arsenal lead race for Man City star

Tottenham are not planning to make a last ditch effort to hijack Arsenal's Gabriel Jesus talks as Fabio Paratici's and Daniel Levy's priorities are currently elsewhere, football.london understands.

The striker's future is very much up in the air at the moment with Edu and the Gunners hoping to agree on a deal slightly short of City's £50million asking price. Currently, they are in the driving seat to win the deal over Tottenham and Chelsea, with the Gunners able to guarantee the frontman more game time than the likes of their London rivals.

Arsenal technical director Edu has been in contact with the player's agent since November and they are the frontrunners for his signatures, but the two clubs remain apart in their valuations, with City not needing to sell. A £45million deal looks likely, but Spurs were thought to be in the running to hijack any potential move.

However, that is not the case. Fabio Paratici and Spurs are known admirers of the Manchester City striker, but no bid has gone in for him and there are no plans to make a bid at the current time, football.london understands.

A new striker is on Antonio Conte's wishlist for this summer, with a number of names linked with a move to N17. Spurs have already been credited with an interest in Brazilian duo Richarlison and Raphinha but expect to face stiff competition from their London rivals for the pair. They are also known admirers of Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, as first reported by football.london.

Both Conte and Paratici are fans of Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez and Spurs attempted to sign the 24-year-old last summer. However, since then the Argentine has penned a new long-term deal and is expected to be extremely difficult to prise away from the Serie A side this year.

Speaking about the Gabriel Jesus move, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio said: "I think they're (Tottenham and PSG) just watching the situation and they know that Gabriel is very close to joining Arsenal. So, PSG at the moment, are not in a rush to sign a striker but Luis Campos has always been a big fan of Gabriel Jesus and this is why he has been following the situation. Tottenham are interested in Gabriel Jesus. They have had several contacts with his agents.

"But they know that Gabriel wants to be the star of the project, they key player of the project and this is why for Arsenal it is a good opportunity because Arsenal need a No. 9, need a proper striker to be the face of the project. With Tottenham they have Kane, Son, Kulusevski who's doing great so this is why for Gabriel, at the moment, the priority is Arsenal but they have to be fast."
