Tottenham's Dejan Kulusevski coy on Premier League title chances amid Antonio Conte admission

Dejan Kulusevski has opened up on his thoughts regarding Tottenham's season. Spurs finished fourth in the 2021/22 campaign and there are hopes that Antonio Conte's side can go one step further.

The Swede was one of two January arrivals, along with Rodrigo Bentancur, and the 22-year-old made an instant impact. In his first 18 Premier League appearances, Kulusevski scored five goals and registered eight assists.

This season, the Lilywhites have won two and drawn one of their initial three matches and the winger has featured in all of them. Kulusevski has already scored one goal, made five tackles and 14 recoveries.

Ahead of Tottenham's next match, which is a trip to the City Ground to play Nottingham Forest on Sunday, the former Juventus player has explained what Conte tells his players and the passion that he evokes. "[Conte] always tells me 'don't enjoy it, don't have fun'," Kulusevski told Sky Sports.

"You're not here to have fun, you're here to win games and to score, to attack the goal. Don't pass too much...and he's right because he just wants one thing and that's to win.

"He doesn't want to enjoy, he doesn't want nothing of that, he wants to win because he's a winner and I'm so grateful to have him because I have never seen something like it. I never seen somebody be that in love with winning and I think that's going to take me and the team to the next level," the Swedish international admitted.

Conte has already made great improvements to the Spurs side, both on and off the pitch. The 53-year-old has been backed by those above him, with the seven signings Tottenham have already made this summer, preparing the north London side for a hopefully successful season.

Kulusevski also spoke on Zlatan Ibrahimovic and how much of a role model he is to young Swedish players. "He's a true champion, a true warrior and he shows that everything you want in life you can get and that's the role models people need," he explained.

The winger went on to reveal that he is a massive Premier League fan and described England's top flight as a "show". "I could be on Saturday at home watching four, five games in a row. So I know the league, I know the teams, but it's football here. It's fluid, it's just enjoying, it's more like a show," he explained.

"It's like go out and just show everything you've got. Referees, they don't whistle fouls...I'm used to that, sometimes very good, sometimes a little bit harder to adjust, but the game is fluid. The fans are amazing, the stadiums, the grass, I love the pitches."

The Swede was then asked about where he believes his side can finish this season. Kulusevski admitted he is very "hopeful" and said "it's just work, you stay silent and then in the end, you're going to see."

The youngster was then pressed on where he believes Spurs can finish. When the 22-year-old said he thought Tottenham could finish better than fourth, the Sky Sports interviewee asked what the top level for Conte's side was.

"We don't decide that," Kulusevski responded. It seemed as though the Swede perhaps had more to say, but was holding back somewhat.

"I know one thing and my manager always says that everybody can speak, everybody can talk, but on the pitch it's different. That's what I want to do," he added. "I want us to show everybody on the pitch, not outside, so we're going to see how far it's going to be. I know the team is good, I know the team is talented and works hard and then at the end of the day, we will see how far it will be."

Kulusevski speaks with such maturity and ambition, after being in the capital for less than a year and at just 22. This will be pleasing for Conte to see and hear and fans will hope the Swedish international can continuing improving and making an impact on the Tottenham side.
