Tottenham: Richarlison ruled out of Nottingham Forest clash as Brennan Johnson injury fears allayed

Tottenham will be without Richarlison for Sunday’s visit of Nottingham Forest but fears of an injury to Brennan Johnson have been allayed.

Johnson scored in the 1-1 draw at West Ham on Tuesday but was substituted with a knock towards the end and later pictured with bandaging around his knee.

Richarlison has come off the bench in Spurs’ last three games as he continues to nurse a knee injury and will be given the weekend off to aid his recovery.

Speaking on Friday afternoon, Postecoglou said: “Brennan is fine. There’s no problem.

“The only one is Richy. He’s had a bit of a niggle with his knee these last few weeks. We figured it is kind of best he takes his weekend off and gets ready for Newcastle next.”

Johnson came off the bench to assist two goals in a comeback 2-1 win over Luton last weekend, before opening the scoring against West Ham in midweek after getting the nod to start ahead of Dejan Kulusevski.

Postecoglou said: “He's found a bit of confidence and consistency and understanding of the way we play.

“We bought him very much as a young player with an eye of knowing that what he does this year. There’s more in him.

Forest visit north London on Sunday evening, in a game originally scheduled for Monday. Spurs face Newcastle at St James’ Park next Saturday.
