Tottenham reject latest Harry Kane offer as Bayern Munich told bid falls £25m short of valuation

Tottenham have rebuffed another bid from Bayern Munich for Harry Kane, with the German giants now considering whether to continue talks.

The latest offer was understood to be some £25million short of Spurs’ valuation of the England captain and Bayern officials are set to weigh up their options at a pre-planned meeting later on Monday.

Kane has made it clear that he expects to stay at Spurs if no deal has been agreed before they begin the new campaign at Brentford on Sunday -- though head coach Ange Postecoglou yesterday suggested the only deadline for a transfer remained the end of the transfer window at midnight on September 1.

Bayern’s had already seen an opening offer worth around £70m plus add-ons and an improved follow up bid knocked back by Spurs this summer.

According to reports in Germany, their latest offer was their ‘final’ offer for Kane and they are now weighing up whether to go higher again. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy met officials from the Bundesliga champions last week, signalling his intention to negotiate, but is now understood to be in the US.

Kane, who has entered the final 12 months of a six-year deal, scored four times as Spurs beat Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 in their penultimate summer friendly on Sunday.

Afterwards, Postecoglou said he remained in the dark on Kane’s future but called for a quick resolution to the transfer saga.

“I’ve said to [the club] that if the status quo changes then inform me,” Postecoglou said. “I don’t need to know about the comings and goings in between. I just want to deal with what’s in front of me because I’ve got to still, irrespective of the outcome of that, I’m building a team here.

“I can’t wait [around] for a decision either way to get going. We don’t have the time or the luxury to do that. I’m working with what’s in front of me. You saw today that Harry certainly is invested in what we’re doing and we’ll keep on doing that unless something changes.”

Asked about suggestions Bayern had set Spurs a deadline to respond to their latest bid, Postecoglou added: “From my perspective I don’t know what deadlines means. We know there’s one deadline and that’s the end of the transfer window. Beyond that, I’m in open dialogue with Harry and with the club on a regular basis.”

Kane has made it clear that he will not sign a new Spurs contract while the transfer window remains open but is understood to have not ruled out resuming talks during the campaign if Postecoglou’s rebuild shows significant promise.

If he does not sign a new deal, he would be able to leave Spurs on a free transfer at the end of the coming season and sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs in January.
