Tottenham put on transfer alert as Sporting director 'spotted' with Arsenal chief Edu in London

The January transfer window is starting to heat up and local rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are both expected to be active in the market.

The Gunners currently find themselves at the top of the table whilst Spurs sit fifth, just two points behind fourth-placed Manchester United - although Erik ten Hag's men have a game in hand on the Lillywhites.

Now, Portuguese outlet Record have claimed that Sporting Lisbon director Hugo Viana has been in London in recent days and the transfer chief is said to have met with Arsenal technical director Edu.

It is unclear if the pair have met up to discuss a potential transfer or are merely old friends catching up but Tottenham supporters will certainly be interested considering they have been linked with two Sporting players in the form of Marcus Edwards and Pedro Porro.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that Spurs are set to open talks with the Portuguese club over a potential return for Edwards, who previously donned the Lillywhites' shirt before leaving in search of greater game time four years ago.

football.london reported last month that Spurs have a strong interest in right-back Pedro Porro with Fabio Paratici a fan, although there are some doubts over whether the talented Spaniard physically fits Conte's wing-back system. Sporting head coach Ruben Amorim has confirmed that any club that wants to sign Porro would need to pay the full £39.7m release clause this month.

"With regard to Pedro Porro, we know that there are players in our team who, because of what they have done, are now wanted by other clubs," he said at a recent press conference.

"We had this problem in the summer too. What I was told is that he can only leave if the clause is triggered. And if the clause is triggered, there is nothing we can do.

"He is playing really well. Like me, he is living one of the best moments of his career and he is only focused on Sporting. We are prepared for anything and we know that there are clubs who can pay the clause, but, until that happens, I think Pedro is safe."
