Tottenham player ratings vs Liverpool: Eric Dier struggles with the basics before major Lucas Moura mistake

Tottenham suffered heartbreak at Anfield as they went down 4-3 to Diego Jota’s stoppage-time winner, seconds after Richarlison appeared to have completed a remarkable comeback from 3-0 down.

Spurs trailed by three goals inside 15 minutes through strikes from Curtis Jones and Luiz Dias and a Mo Salah penalty, suggesting they were on course for another humiliating thrashing on the road after last weekend’s 6-1 defeat at Newcastle.

But Liverpool eased up and Spurs had a flurry of chances in the first half, with Harry Kane volleying home to give the visitors hope. Heung-min Son and Cristian Romero both struck the post before the Korean beat the offside trap to make it 3-2.

Substitute Richarlison thought he had rescued Spurs a point with his first League goal for the club but Jota pounced on Lucas Moura’s error moments later to further damage Spurs’ European chances.

Dan Kilpatrick was at Anfield to rate the Spurs players...

Fraser Forster 5

Well beaten for all four goals but not the main culprit.

Cristian Romero 5

Rashly gave away a costly penalty with a rash lunge on Gakpo, having already failed to block Diaz’s strike. But went some way to making amends by setting up Son’s goal with a fine pass. His acrobatic effort also came back off the post.

Eric Dier 3

Failed to track Gakpo’s run for Liverpool’s second goal and struggled to do the basics in possession.

Ben Davies 5

At sea in the first 10 minutes but grew into the game and battled well against Salah.

Pedro Porro 5

Left Jones completely unmarked at the far post for Liverpool’s opening goal. Nearly scored in consecutive games with a stinging drive tipped over by Alisson.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 7

Allowed far too much space in front of the defence as Liverpool raced into a 3-0 goal lead. But kept his head up and his energy and influence helped to push Spurs towards a comeback.

Oliver Skipp 8

Made Spurs’ goal with a crisp pass for Perisic and snapped into some big tackles, prompting the away end to sing his name. Committed display.

Ivan Perisic 7

Assisted Kane’s goal with a cross after leaving Virgil van Dijk on the deck and put in two or three other dangerous balls.

Dejan Kulusevski 5

Had an effort saved by Alisson in the first half when he really should have squared to Kane.

Heung-min Son 8

Scored with a composed finished, twice struck the post (albeit once from an offside position) and had an effort cleared off the line by Van Dijk. Perhaps he could have been more clinical but largely just unlucky.

Harry Kane 8

Took his goal well and set up a chance for Son, which was cleared off the line. Some of his passing was excellent.

Subs

Pape Matar Sarr (Kulusevski 66’) 6

Moved the ball well in a tidy cameo.

Richarlison (Skipp 84’) 8

Thought he had completed a remarkable comeback with his first League goal. Earlier, his reputation probably preceded him but had a decent case for a penalty after being held by Ibrahima Konate.

Arnaut Danjuma (Perisic 90’) 6

Lucas Moura (Porro 90’) 1

Gifted the ball to Jota for Liverpool’s winner.

Not used: Austin, Sanchez, Tanganga, Lenglet, Devine.
