Tottenham player ratings vs Chelsea: Oliver Skipp and Harry Kane outstanding; Cristian Romero relishes needle

Tottenham piled the pressure on Chelsea boss Graham Potter with a 2-0 win over the Blues, thanks to goals by Oliver Skipp and Harry Kane.

Skipp’s thunderous strike off the bar gave Spurs the lead in the first minute of the second half and Kane clinched the win with a close-range finish.

Spurs consolidated fourth place and opened up a 14 point gap to Chelsea, who are increasingly reliant on the Champions League to save their season.

Dan Kilpatrick was at White Hart Lane to rate the Spurs players...

Fraser Forster 8

Got behind first-half efforts from Joao Felix and Raheem Sterling and was quick off his line to deny Kai Havertz after the break.

Cristian Romero 8

Relished the needle in a feisty derby and was excellent in and out of possession.

Eric Dier 8

Dealt well with Chelsea’s fleet-footed forwards in a composed defensive display and rose above Mason Mount to assist Kane’s goal.

Clement Lenglet 7

Brought the ball out of defence well and assured at the back.

Emerson Royal 8

Forced a save from Kepa in the build up to Skipp’s goal and was constantly involved at both ends.

Oliver Skipp 9

Scored his first Spurs goal with a cracking strike from 18 yards, capping a standout display in the middle.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 8

Struck the post in the first half. Used the ball well and put himself about in a composed and combative display.

Ben Davies 7

Not a natural wing-back but created a couple of openings by keeping it simple.

Dejan Kulusevski 8

Showed several flashes of his brilliant best in a lively performance, suggesting he has turned a corner following a quiet spell.

Richarlison 7

Combative and involved in a couple of good moves, including for Skipp’s goal, but loose at times. Needs a run of games.

Harry Kane 9

Everything went through him in a commanding outing. Fully deserved his goal, a smart finish at the back post after Dier had flicked on Son’s corner.

Subs

Heung-min Son (Kulusevski 79’) 7

His corner made the second goal in another important cameo.

Pedro Porro (Richarlison 89’) N/A

Not used: Austin, Sanchez, Perisic, Danjuma, Tanganga, Lucas, Sarr.
