Tottenham player ratings vs Brentford: Japhet Tanganga poor as Harry Kane sparks comeback

Tottenham conjured a 2-2 draw out of almost nothing thanks to Harry Kane and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s comeback goals at Brentford.

Spurs have now earned 14 points from losing positions, more than any other team, but their defensive record remains a serious concern.

Here’s how Nick Purewal rated Spurs against Brentford...

Fraser Forster 6

Produced one decent save but will be frustrated to have parried into Janelt’s path for the Brentford opener, despite the deflection.

Japhet Tanganga 4

All at sea almost all afternoon in both alignment and interventions. Not alone in this but endured a day where he never found his bearings.

Clement Lenglet 6

Struggled in the first half but laid on an inch-perfect long-range cross for Kane’s towering header.

Eric Dier 5

A botched clearance gift-wrapped the corner for Toney’s finish, as the England man looked uncomfortable in the extreme amid Spurs’ clunky set-up.

Matt Doherty 6

Improved along with Spurs throughout the contest, as Conte’s men snatched a draw almost from nothing.

Yves Bissouma 5

Outgunned for the majority of the match by Brentford’s superior midfield poise and positioning.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 6

Fine finish sealed the draw and put some gloss on an at-times patchy showing.

Ivan Perisic 5

Looked leggy at points but kept pushing on a day when he could not quite offer his usual class.

Dejan Kulusevski 7

Neat interplay teed up the crucial second goal as Spurs dug themselves out of yet another hole.

Harry Kane 7

This sport always has room for those who can be quiet but deliver exactly when needed. One moment of total dominance with his punishing header did the trick here.

Son Heung-min 6

The South Korea star had a quiet outing by his standards, but was among the first to drag Spurs into some stability after a messy start.

Replacements

Davison Sanchez (for Tanganga, 67) 6

Shored things up somewhat but was helped by Spurs holding all the late momentum.

Ben Davies (for Lenglet, 90+5) 6

Kept shape in the briefest of cameos.
