Tottenham player ratings vs Aston Villa: Lloris howler, Kane and Son poor, Bissouma suspended

Hugo Lloris

Back in the starting line-up, the captain had nothing to do until early in the second half when he spilled Luiz's shot and Watkins teed up Buendia to score. Couldn't do much about Luiz's neat finish for Villa's second but this was another mistake at a crucial moment from the Frenchman. 3

Cristian Romero

The returning World Cup winner put in some early trademark crunching tackles in both halves of the pitch to make his presence felt. Picked up a yellow card when he seemed to win the ball in the first half. Looked at least desperate to make a difference for Spurs which couldn't be said about all of his team-mates. 7

Clement Lenglet

Also picked up a yellow card for a tactical foul in the first half. Didn't too much wrong at the back for most of the game but the defence were undone by Lloris' howler and a well worked Villa second. Did make a mess late on and presented Villa with a chance. 5

Ben Davies

Completed the set of first half yellow cards for Spurs' centre-backs but didn't do too much wrong during the game. 6

Matt Doherty

Had a lovely link-up with Gil early in the first half before nutmegging Mings in the Villa box only for his shot to be deflected away from goal. Made a crucial sliding tackle to deny Watkins in the Spurs box after the hour mark. 6

Yves Bissouma

Off the pace at times and picked up a fifth yellow card of the season after labouring to get back and making a late lunge, which means he'll miss the match at Palace in midweek. Did put in a nice ball that led to a Perisic chance. 5

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

The usual hustle and bustle but also too many sloppy passes. 5

Ivan Perisic

Spurs used him a lot down the left and he had a big chance in the second half that he sliced over. He switched to the right after Gil went off. 6

Bryan Gil

Worked hard and showed some nice touches early on in his first Premier League start, but wasn't able to make much of an impact. 4

Harry Kane

Didn't touch the ball for a long time in the first half until he got a chance with a header cleared off the line by Young. Gave the ball away in the build-up to Villa's second goal. 4

Son Heung-min

After being caught in possession early on, something that happened a few times in the first half, he threw his protective mask off the pitch to play the rest of the game. Still looks so low on confidence and inspiration. Had a big chance in the first half to set up Kane for a clear effort on goal but overhit the pass. 4

Subs

Ryan Sessegnon

Replaced Gil but offered little more down the left-hand side with Perisic switching flanks. 4

Pape Matar Sarr

A bright little cameo with a couple of good interceptions. 6

Emerson Royal

Added a little energy down the right but nothing more. 4

Djed Spence

Came on for added time and tried to get down the right in an attacking role. N/A

Oliver Skipp

Replaced Hojbjerg for added time. N/A
