Tottenham 'offered midfielder' in exchange for Sofyan Amrabat swap deal

Tottenham ’s January transfer window is at risk of becoming a disaster with the window closing in a matter of days.

Spurs have failed to sign any players this month, despite Antonio Conte taking over in November and aiming to freshen up his new squad as they go in search of a top four finish.

Porto’s Luis Diaz emerged as an exciting target following reports, although it looks as though the north London club have missed out on that one after having a bid rejected earlier this week.

Liverpool have since swooped in to line up a £50m deal for the winger which is expected to be completed in the coming days.

To add to the disappointment of failing to secure a deal for Diaz, the club have also lost hope of signing Wolves winger Adama Traore, after the Spaniard was unconvinced of being turned into a wing-back under Conte.

Traore has now completed a switch to Barcelona, joining the Catalan club on a six-month loan with the option to buy at the end of the season.

However, Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat could potentially be the first new signing through the door at Tottenham.

In an attempt to sign him from the Serie A club, Spurs even offered one of their players who Conte seems happy to let go this month, according to reports.

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Spurs offered Giovani Lo Celso as a part of a swap deal to sign the Moroccan from Fiorentina.

Lo Celso is one of the players that Conte is keen to offload this month and attempted to do that by including him in the deal, with the Argentine clearly having no future at the club.

The 25-year-old signed permanently from Real Betis in January 2020, but has primarily featured in cup competitions this season, with just nine Premier League outings under his belt in 2021-22.

However, the Italians rejected this approach and were not interested in taking on Lo Celso.

Either way, nothing has been agreed yet between the two clubs to bring Amrabat to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Amrabat is currently on Africa Cup of Nations duty with his country, who are preparing for their quarter-final tie with Egypt on Sunday.

This could potentially slow down any advancements with him being in a different continent, and time isn’t exactly in abundance ahead of Monday's deadline.

Spurs may already have turned their attentions elsewhere too, as the club are in discussions with Juventus over a possible loan deal for Dejan Kulusevski, which would include an option or obligation to buy.
