Tottenham news: Spurs finally complete defender signing as Antonio Conte sanctions double exit

Here's the latest Tottenham headlines at football.london on Wednesday, August 31.

Spurs confirm Romero's permanent signing

Tottenham have confirmed that Cristian Romero's initial loan move has now become a permanent one. The Argentine made the move to N17 last summer from Atalanta but has now signed a contract with the club until 2027.

Romero has become a pivotal part of Antonio Conte's side and has already made 32 appearances for Spurs, though he's recently picked up a handful of injuries. The 24-year-old's most recent injury was picked up during the 2-2 draw against Chelsea a couple of weeks ago.

football.london understand that Spurs' medical department told Romero that the adductor injury would require three to four weeks of recovery time. However, the Argentine wanted to get straight back into action with Spurs, although Conte explained it wasn't worth the risk.

Reguilon completes exit

Tottenham have announced the loan move of Sergio Reguilon to Atletico Madrid. The defender will spend the rest of the 2022/23 campaign at the Metropolitano Stadium under Diego Simeone's stewardship.

The defender would've struggled for regular game time this season, especially with the arrival of Ivan Perisic, along with Ryan Sessegnon's recent bright performances. Therefore, a move away seemed more of a case of when rather than if.

The 25-year-old arrived in N17 a couple of seasons ago and has made 67 appearances for Spurs. However, he struggled to adapt a full-back to a wing-back, which hasn't helped his case under Conte.

Winks joins Sampdoria on loan

Harry Winks has finally got his Tottenham exit, with a loan move until the end of the season to Sampdoria confirmed. The 26-year-old has been linked with a move away from his childhood club all summer.

Winks was originally linked with Everton, but those rumours disappeared, and everything went quiet. In the last few weeks, there have been links with a move abroad, and when Sampdoria came up, reports suggested that the midfielder wanted some time to think about his next destination.

football.london reported on Friday that Winks was close to securing a move to the Italian side.
