Tottenham news: Spurs eye £21m midfielder transfer battle as Hugo Lloris makes exciting claim

Here is your Spurs digest on Tuesday, May 23.

Spurs eye Palhinha

Tottenham are reportedly considering a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Palhinha.

According to A Bola, via Sport Witness, Tottenham are one of a number of sides considering a move for the 26-year-old. While he has a release clause in his contract set at €60million (£50.9million), Sporting are said to be ready to accept a bid around the €25million (£21.2million) mark.

An exit for the midfielder is said to be "inevitable" this summer, with a host of clubs looking to make a move. Among them are Napoli - who apparently may struggle to afford him, Wolves, Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen.

Hugo Lloris makes claim about Antonio Conte and Tottenham's summer plans that will excite fans

Hugo Lloris believes Antonio Conte already knows exactly what he wants and needs at Tottenham next season and there is "huge confidence" in the camp. Arriving at the club in November with the team struggling in the league after such a poor start, the Italian has transformed Spurs in recent months to help guide them to the Champions League.

Spurs' inconsistent form at the beginning of the year looked like it would cost them dearly in the top-four race but the Lilywhites hit top form at exactly the right time to pip Arsenal to fourth. Certainly helped by the January additions of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski as the pair helped take the team to the next level, it is imperative that the head coach is backed this summer if Tottenham are to keep on progressing.

"I think it's a big achievement. When you look at the season, there's so many up and downs. The credit belongs to the players for never giving up but also to Antonio Conte and his coaching staff," admitted the World Cup winner. "It's a team win and I think it's going to give the club the positiveness to prepare for next season with the guidance of Antonio Conte.

Tottenham to back Antonio Conte ahead of 'exciting' summer

Tottenham Hotspur are planning to back Antonio Conte fully in the transfer market this summer to ensure the Italian's ambitions can be achieved at the club, football.london understands.

The Italian has surpassed expectations in his first seven months at Spurs, taking them to a fourth-place finish and back into the Champions League. Conte has impressed the Tottenham hierarchy with the way he has knitted the club back together from the fragmented, demoralised outfit left in the wake of the brief Nuno Espirito Santo era.

An emotional rollercoaster of a manager, Conte has poured himself into the job at Spurs and has brought smiles back to those in the corridors of Hotspur Way. The 52-year-old, with his coaching staff, has transformed the fitness and mentality of a Tottenham squad that was bottom of most of the statistical charts and has made them one of the hardest-working sides in the Premier League.
