Tottenham news: Harry Kane sets new record as tactical decision in Crystal Palace win explained

Harry Kane has continued to set new goal scoring landmarks, with his goal for Tottenham against Crystal Palace moving him above Wayne Rooney in the all-time Premier League goal scoring charts.

The 29-year-old netted his 209th goal in England's top flight with a powerful downward header from a Pedro Porro cross that flew beyond Sam Johnstone in the Palace goal.

In 2023, a goal against Manchester City made him Spurs' all-time record goal scorer and a few months later he became England's leading scorer, also overtaking Rooney with a penalty against Italy.

Mason explains Palace tactics

Ryan Mason has explained the thought process behind his tactical decision which helped Tottenham beat Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic and Dejan Kulusevski were all left out of the starting XI with Clement Lenglet, Pedro Porro and Richarlison coming in.

The changes also saw a tactical switch in formation with Spurs settling into a back three when in possession and a back four when defending. Mason has now provided his reasons for making those tactical tweaks.

Porro applauds Emerson

Emerson Royal and Pedro Porro started their first game together since the latter's January arrival in Tottenham's win against Crystal Palace.

The Brazilian had missed the last month through injury which handed Porro a number of consecutive starts but he returned to the team on Saturday.

The duo were deployed on the same flank and combined on a number of occasions with one moment seeing Porro applaud Emerson.
