Tottenham make Djed Spence transfer call as Leicester and Brentford look to seal January loan

Tottenham have given the green light for Djed Spence to head out on loan in January with Leicester City and Brentford amongst the interested clubs, football.london understands. However, Spurs at this current time are rejecting any permanent sales or options to buy the 22-year-old.

Joining the Lilywhites in the summer from Championship side Middlesbrough after excelling in his year on loan at Nottingham Forest, the England Under-21s international was seen as someone who could come in and give Spurs a much-needed upgrade at right wing-back.

That has not turned out to be the case, though, with Spence only managing six appearances for Tottenham in 2022/23. Spence has yet to start a game for Spurs, instead having to make do with limited minutes from the substitutes' bench when Antonio Conte has given him an opportunity in the team.

There have been multiple occasions when the 22-year-old has missed out on the matchday squad in the Premier League altogether, including in their last three fixtures against Arsenal, Man City and Fulham. Spence has had to watch on with Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal fighting it out to be the club's first-choice right wing-back.

Now with less than a week left in the transfer window, Spence looks on course to depart with Tottenham sanctioning a loan move so he can feature regularly between now and the end of the campaign. As well as interest from Leicester and Brentford, Southampton, Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen are also keen on a deal for the talented player.

It remains to be seen whether a deal for Sporting CP man Pedro Porro could change Tottenham's outlook at the last minute on rejecting options to buy as they would then have four right wing-backs on the books. However, selling Spence six months after buying him is seen as unlikely at this point.

Following a quiet month on the transfer front, Villarreal attacker Arnaut Danjuma is on course to become the club's first winter addition after a dramatic U-turn with a move to Everton almost done and dusted.
