Tottenham Hotspur warned 'flat track bullies' must save season against Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur have been warned their upcoming games against Newcastle United and Liverpool could define their season. Antonio Conte's side have made an impressive start to the season, four points off league leaders Arsenal who have a game in hand.

However, there's murmurs of discontent among the Spurs fanbase over style of play and former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor claims they've been lucky to pick up points. He claims Conte's side have been battered off Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal and are over reliant on Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.

The Tottenham duo have rescued Spurs on a number of occasions throughout the years, but Agbonlahor believes they're now having to rescue the club duo to a stifling formation.

Agbonlahor told talkSPORT: "Spurs for me are flat track bullies. They got battered by Chelsea and knicked a point, they got battered by Arsenal, battered.

"They got battered by Manchester United last night and in their next three games they've got Liverpool and Newcastle. So, this shows what Spurs are about these next two games for me.

"It's ok beating the teams that Spurs are meant to beat. Play anyone decent and they get battered.

"The formation restricts them so much, it's negative for me and it's ok when you're playing the weaker teams and Son and Kane can bail Conte out. Last night for starters, Martinez had Kane in his pocket.

"Every time Kane came to receive the ball, Martinez was on him like a rash. He had Kane in his pocket and Son was poor.

"But, they had no support. Bentancur tried to get forward a little bit but the tactics were so negative I felt sorry for Son and Kane. It's like they need to rescue a goal for Conte to save Spurs."
