Tottenham Hotspur and Republic of Ireland star Matt Doherty has highlighted Leeds United's Tyler Adams as a player to look out for during the USA's clash against Wales this evening.
Adams beat the likes of Christian Pulisic and Walker Zimmerman in a squad vote to captain Gregg Berhalter's side, becoming the youngest player to lead his nation at a World Cup in 72 years.
Having arrived at Elland Road in the days following Kalvin Phillips' departure to Manchester City, the 23-year-old has quickly become a fan favourite after starting 13 of the Whites' 14 Premier League matches so far this season.

And Doherty has tipped Adams, who coincidentally saw red against Spurs in Leeds' previous Premier League outing, to stand out when he takes on Gareth Bale and company. “Obviously, Spurs players aside, I would say Tyler Adams, of the USA [could stand out]," he told tottenhamhotspur.com.
"I’ve been quite impressed with him since he came into the Premier League at Leeds. I thought he played well against us last time out, okay, he got sent off at the end, but every time I’ve watched him play for Leeds he’s looked energetic, competitive, and has good quality on the ball - a player who has stood out for me.”
Adams is likely to be joined in midfield by Leeds teammate Brenden Aaronson after the latter was labelled 'the U.S.’s hottest soccer prospect for generations' by Time magazine.
The USA will also face England and Iran in their attempt to progress from Group B after failing to qualify for the 2018 finals in Russia.
