Tottenham Hotspur lose five stars but sign two as January transfer window closes

Tottenham enjoyed a relatively successful first transfer window with Antonio Conte at the helm.

The Italian coach is known to be demanding of his bosses when asking for them to recruit the standard of player he requires.

He previously described the club's need to "work hard in the way we’re doing and continue to improve the level of our players".

Director of Football Fabio Paratici has certainly brought in some exciting talents, although fans have been critical that the club has not necessarily strengthened in all of the areas they needed to.

But despite that criticism, the club have brought in two exciting acquisitions and shipped out five players who were deemed to be no longer needed – including former favourite Dele Alli.

Here are all the Tottenham Hotspur ins and outs from the January transfer window.

Ins

Fabio Paratici certainly used his connections at former club Juventus as Spurs confirmed the exciting captures of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski from the Italian side.

Spurs beat Aston Villa and Lyon to the signature of Argentinian midfielder Bentancur, while Swedish winger Kulusevski was also linked with fierce rivals Arsenal.

Conte and Paratici will hope Kulusevski can ease the goalscoring burden on Harry Kane and add some much-needed creativity up top for his new side.

Bentancur should help make his new side more direct while adding some much-needed steel in the middle of the park.

Outs

Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele were the major departures during the month for Spurs – with both coming in the final hours of the window.

The club's record signing Ndombele returned to former club Lyon, who have paid a £1.2million loan fee, with the deal giving them the option to make the deal permanent in the summer for a fee thought to be around £54m.

Dele joined Frank Lampard's Everton in one of the latest announcements of the day as the former England international moved to Goodison Park for a fee that could rise to £40m based on his performances.

Giovani Lo Celso has also been allowed to join Unai Emery's Villarreal while Bryan Gil joined Valencia, both being loan deals running until the end of the season.

Clarke, 21, has joined Sunderland until the end of the season and will hope his exposure to more first-team football will help his development.
