Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen is backing Tottenham Hotspur to edge out the Red Devils in the race for a Champions League place come the end of the season.
Both clubs are currently in the thick of a battle to earn a place in the top four - and with it a return to Europe’s top table.
Antonio Conte’s Spurs currently sit seventh in the table and four points behind fourth-placed West Ham. Meanwhile, the Red Devils are fifth following their 1-1 draw with Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the latter’s current positional and points advantage, Owen is backing the north Londoners to achieve their target come the conclusion of the current campaign for a number of reasons.
Speaking on BT Sport, he said: “Spurs have got games in hand.
“Manchester United have got a few more points at the moment. West Ham have got points in the bag. Arsenal got great a win on Thursday night [vs Wolves].
“You can make a case for any of them. I think Wolves needed to get something [vs. Arsenal] to shake that up. But I think it is between those four teams, and it literally could be any of them. I am going to go for Tottenham.”
Whilst Spurs have time to reduce the gap between themselves and those above them, he has suggested that the quality in the squad - as well as in their backroom team - are huge reasons behind selecting the north Londoners for a top four place.
He continued: “They kept their big players; Harry Kane is starting to look like the Kane of old, and they have kept Son [Heung-min] fit.
“Yes, it was a disappointing result on Wednesday [vs. Southampton], but he [Antonio Conte] looks like he is turning it around a little bit at Tottenham.
“It is going to be a great race for fourth; it is going to keep us entertained. Let’s hope the title race is open as well until the end of the season. Any of those four I couldn’t really argue with, but I am just going to go with Tottenham.”
