Almost done: Djed Spence
(Picture: The FA via Getty Images)Tottenham’s protracted signing of Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence is being further delayed by paperwork but the transfer is expected to go through later on Monday or Tuesday.
Spurs last week agreed a package for Spence worth £12.5million up front, which could rise to £19m with performance-related add-ons.
The 21-year-old has passed a medical and even conducted an arrival interview but cannot begin training until paperwork is finalised.
Spence will face stiff competition for a place in Antonio Conte’s side, with the Italian revealing that he plans to convert forward Lucas Moura into a wing-back.
Spurs already have Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty in the role, with Lucas set to provide a forward-thinking option for the new season.
The player himself has also reacted positively to the change, insisting: “I am ready to give my best for the team, for him. It doesn’t matter the position on the pitch. I am here to help this squad.”
