Tottenham handed major transfer boost as Juventus make £40million defensive decision

Tottenham have been handed a major transfer boost in their pursuit of Villarreal defender Pau Torres with Juventus deciding on Matthijs de Ligt's replacement.

The Serie A giants have been linked with a move for Torres and Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes after De Ligt joined Bayern Munich. Spurs have also registered an interest in signing the Spanish defender and now have the perfect opportunity to snap up a deal for Torres.

The Lilywhites have signed six players so far this summer as Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Djed Spence, Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, and Clement Lenglet have all moved to N17. football.london understands Spurs want to sign one or two more players before the transfer deadline.

Juventus have signed Brazilian defender Gleison Bremer from Torino. He was also on the Lilywhites' radar this summer in a £40million deal. With the Old Lady now seemingly out of the race to sign Torres after replacing De ligt, Spurs have a free run at securing the Spaniard's signature this summer as Antonio Conte looks to add more players to his squad.

According to MailOnline, Spurs are still keen on signing the Villarreal star this summer despite signing Lenglet on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona. The defence has been a key area to strengthen for Conte's side, with arrivals of the French defender, Perisic and Spence covering all areas of the back five.

Transfer exits are likely to be the next priority for the Lilywhites, with players such as Sergio Reguilon, Japhet Tanganga, Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele all being linked with moves away. Conte is keen to add quality in depth to key areas, as shown with the arrival of Richarlison in attack, to challenge Son Heung-min, Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski.

Torres' arrival at N17 would be a huge addition to challenge the likes of Ben Davies and Eric Dier in defence, with Cristian Romero showing his quality in an impressive debut season after joining the club last summer. The Spaniard has a release clause of £50million, according to reports in Spain but would reinforce Spurs' defence as they prepare to challenge for trophies and compete in the Champions League next term.
