Tottenham handed major Adama Traore transfer boost as Julen Lopetegui makes contract admission

New Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui has admitted that Adama Traore may not sign a new deal at Molineux. The Spain international has been the subject of a tremendous amount of interest from Tottenham Hotspur over the past couple of years, but a deal has never materialised.

football.london reported in the summer that Fabio Paratici is a fan of Traore, but there has been a concern over his end product during his career. Meanwhile, the club are focused on developing the likes of Bryan Gil and Dejan Kulusevski, who are showing great potential in Spurs colours.

Nevertheless, as his contract expires in the summer of 2023, Tottenham may be exploring the option of securing a free transfer. Traore often played in the right wing-back position under Nuno Espirito Santo at Wolves, meaning he's familiar with the role. Plus, his Premier League experience makes him a favourable choice.

Positively for Spurs supporters, Lopetegui has admitted that he doesn't know whether the Spaniard will commit his future to the West Midlands outfit.

He said, as cited by The Boot Room: "Adama is our player. I’ve known him since he was 14 at Barcelona, he is stronger now! I know he has not finished the contract but the most important thing is he works hard here until June.

"After that, I don’t know what is going to happen. Of course, I would be very happy if he was here."

After spending time on loan at Barcelona last year, the 26-year-old may have higher ambitions than Wolves. That being said, if Lopetegui can get a run of results after the World Cup break, he may be convinced to stay.
