Tottenham fans left confused over postponed matches amid Champions League error

Following the postponement of this weekend's Premier League fixtures following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, there were some doubts over whether games involving English clubs in the upcoming Champions League matches would go ahead.

All Champions League matches involving English teams are still set to go ahead on Tuesday and Wednesday, but Tottenham Hotspur fans were left confused after their game against Sporting Lisbon was displayed as postponed on the club website. Spurs will be looking to make it six points from six on Tuesday when they travel to Portugal, but supporters were initially led to believe that the game had been cancelled.

The match will be going ahead as normal, and Spurs were forced to apologise for the mistake, putting it down as a 'technical error'.

"Due to a technical error, Tuesday’s match against Sporting CP is displaying as postponed on our website," Spurs posted on Twitter.

"We can confirm this is incorrect - the match is going ahead as planned. We are looking into the issue urgently and apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Tottenham won their first game of the Champions League group stage on Wednesday, with summer signing Richarlison scoring a brace to help beat Ligue 1 outfit Marseille 2-0. Sporting currently top the group after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 on Wednesday, with former Spurs youngster Marcus Edwards among the scorers.
