Tottenham decide against appealing Antonio Conte’s Champions League ban

Tottenham will be without Antonio Conte for Tuesday's crucial Champions League decider against Marseille after the club decided against appealing their manager's ban.

Defeat at the imposing Stade Velodrome would see Spurs crash out at the group stage after Harry Kane's late winner against Sporting Libson this week was controversially ruled out. A draw would be enough for second place, and qualification to the knockout stages, while victory would see Spurs top the group.

A lengthy VAR review on Wednesday evening eventually ruled Kane's 95th-minute winner offside, prompting angry protests from Spurs players and coaching staff in which Conte was shown a red card by referee Danny Makkelie.

Due to UEFA rules, Conte is now not allowed to enter the dressing room, tunnel, or stand on the touchline. It reads: “A team manager/coach or other team official who is sent off or suspended from carrying out his function may not be in the technical area or communicate directly with the team’s players and/or technical staff during the match.

“In addition, a team manager/coach or any other team official who is suspended from carrying out his function may not enter the dressing room or tunnel before or during the match.”

Spurs were able to appeal the decision for review, but have decided against it so Conte's fate has been sealed.
