Tottenham confirm new long-term contract for talented youngster amid Champions League decision

Tottenham have confirmed young talent Alfie Devine has signed a new long-term contract to stay at the club until 2027.

Devine became Spurs' youngest-ever player and goalscorer at senior level after scoring in the FA Cup tie against Marine last year. The 18-year-old joined the Lilywhites from Wigan and has since impressed at each youth level for Tottenham.

Devine scored 11 goals in just 22 appearances in all competitions last season for Spurs' at youth level and is considered one of the brightest up-and-coming talents at N17. The youngster was instrumental in helping England under-19s win the European Championship for a second time after overcoming Israel in the final of the competition.

Spurs confirmed the news that Devine has signed a new long-term contract with the club this afternoon. The announcement speaks volumes of how highly-rated the youngster is at the club, with Devine set to be given more first team opportunities throughout the 2022/23 season due to Spurs' packed fixture schedule.

Despite missing out on a spot in Antonio Conte's 25-man UEFA Champions League squad, Devine could still be involved should he be required as he can qualify through Tottenham's 'List B'. As Devine is classed as a homegrown player, he can replace either a current homegrown player or non-homegrown player in the squad, should Conte wish to give youth a chance in Europe's elite club competition.

Conte is keen to lead Spurs deep into the Champions League this season, but the Italian doesn't have the greatest record in Europe. In his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Marseille, Conte said : "My ambition there is the will to have success in Europe. I know very well is difficult but at same time I have this ambition."
