Tottenham fans will be keeping close tabs on Preston North End and Portsmouth this season after the Lilywhites struck loan deals with both clubs this week. Following such a successful year at MK Dons, Troy Parrott will be playing his football in the Championship with Preston in 2022/23 after the Lancashire club beat a number of sides to his signature.
Wednesday evening then saw fellow striker Dane Scarlett depart Tottenham for the first time on loan, joining Portsmouth on a season-long deal. Highly regarded in N17 after his blistering form in front of goal coming through the youth system, Spurs faced a difficult decision over what division the 18-year-old should get his first real taste of regular senior football in.
In the end it was decided he should head to League One, with Fratton Park now his home for the next ten months. A regular in first-team training and named in Spurs' Premier League matchday squad 24 times last campaign, Scarlett was given a fair bit of playing time in the Europa Conference League but it was clear to see that going from academy football to playing against seasoned pros was some jump for him.

The young striker will now pick up the vital first-team experience he requires on the south coast and it is a move both clubs are extremely excited about. Both attackers won't actually have long to wait now to make their debut for their new club with the new EFL season commencing this weekend.
Scarlett will be in line to make his Pompey bow this coming Saturday away at Sheffield Wednesday, with Parrott and Preston making the short trip to Lancashire rivals Wigan Athletic. While it has been very busy in terms of incomings at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the strikers' temporary moves were in fact the club's first two loan exits this summer.
They certainly won't be the last to exit Tottenham on loan and things could really start to ramp up in terms of loan moves on the eve of the EFL campaign. The Lilywhites currently have a number of youngsters who require loans to gain that vital experience of playing in a first-team environment week in, week out to aid their development.
Harvey White, who himself spent time on loan at Portsmouth in 2020/21, is in desperate need of another loan to help his game. A surprise to see him stay at Tottenham during the first part of last term rather than heading out again, he again remained in N17 at the turn of the year with Spurs needing cover in midfield in case of injuries.
Involved in the matchday squad in 18 of their final 19 Premier League games, that experience will have boosted the player but it is not quite the same as playing on a weekly basis in the EFL. Linked with a switch to Championship side Swansea City, Fabio Paratici and Spurs now have to decide what comes next for the talented midfielder.
Jamie Bowden, who caught the eye at Oldham Athletic in the first part of last season, would benefit massively from another loan as would players such as Marcel Lavinier and Malachi Fagan Walcott. Nile John then desperately needs his next move to go right after failing to make an appearance during his short time at Charlton Athletic.
Kion Etete really caught the eye in his two loan spells with Northampton Town and Cheltenham Town last season but he still remains a Tottenham player for the time being. Another loan spell in League One could be on the cards after impressing at Cheltenham unless Spurs feel a further step up the divisions would be beneficial if an offer materialises.
Tottenham must also decide on Alfie Devine, as football.london reported in May that they will now consider loan moves for him such has been his development in the capital. Keen not to hold back his progress, the player is also believed to be pushing for a loan spell to build on his development.
Providing that is still very much the case, the club need to determine what division would be best for the player. As Scarlett will be playing his football in League One, the ex-Wigan youngster could follow in his teammate's footsteps and play in England's third tier.
On the eve of the new EFL season commencing, a few more loan exits from Tottenham should start to come to fruition as the club will ideally want their players at their new home early on as that will only benefit them. A busy week so far in terms of outgoings, it may not be long at all until the next player heads out of the door.
