Tottenham and Thiago Silva send message to Richarlison after Brazil vs Tunisia racism incident

Tottenham have sent a message of solidarity to Richarlison after the Brazilian was racially abused by a Tunisia supporter during their international break friendly clash.

Tite's side ended their FIFA World Cup preparations with a bang as Richarlison alongside Man Utd's Casemiro and Barcelona's Raphinha put in a big performance as one of the favourites to win the competition in Qatar, hitting five past Tunisia.

Despite how glamorous the result was for the side who face Serbia in their first group game of the competition in November, the evening was overshadowed by a racist incident that was highlighted post-match.

A fan decided to throw a banana on the pitch towards Richarlison in scenes similar to the ugly incident in the away end towards Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during a 4-2 win for the Gunners against Tottenham in 2018.

With the North London Derby upon us, Antonio Conte will hope that the 25-year-old will have not been affected by the ugly scenes witnessed in the Parc des Princes on Tuesday evening.

Tottenham came out on social media to show their support: "We are disgusted by the racist abuse of Richarlison at last night’s game between Brazil and Tunisia. This has no place in football, or anywhere. We stand with you, Richy."

Spurs' No.9 has called for action to be taken against the supporter and had referenced what happened to Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr. recently as a cause for concern about the current state of fan behaviour within the beautiful game.

He told local media post-match: "I don't know what I could have done in the heat of the moment. May this fan be identified and punished. You see what happened with Vinicius Jr. recently and now this, inside a stadium. May the authorities find and punish him. May this incident teach other people not to do it."

Chelsea defender and Brazil teammate Thiago Silva also spoke after the match and was dismayed to witness what happened to his teammate in France.

"I was saddened by the gesture they made, throwing the banana at Richarlison which, frankly, leaves me very saddened because that's not football," he reflected to local media. "Football is about supporting your team. Afterwards, on the pitch, we try to give our all for our national team. But gestures like that are not good for football.
