Tottenham Hotspur are set to complete the signing of Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven, according to reports. Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has acted swiftly to freshen up the senior squad ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Daniel Levy has backed Postecoglou after already completing the signings of James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro. Manor Solomon is also close to signing on a free transfer should FIFA allow his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk to be terminated as a result of the ongoing war with Russia, football.london understands.
According to The Mirror, Spurs will pay Wolfsburg £30million with Van de Ven coming in to bolster Postecoglou's defensive options. Dutch journalist Mike Verweij has confirmed that the player has reached an agreement on personal terms with Tottenham and he will sign a contract with the club until the summer of 2028.
Following the departure of Clement Lenglet after his loan deal from Barcelona expired, Spurs' focus turned to adding defensive reinforcements. Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba has been linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, but Van de Ven looks set to become the first addition to the backline.
The 22-year-old defender has shown his quality in the Bundesliga and looks ready for the step up to English football. Liverpool had been linked with a move for the Dutchman, but Spurs look set to have beaten their Premier League rivals to his signature.
