Harry Kane once again proved Tottenham’s milestone man as the England captain’s 250th goal sealed a win over a resilient Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Much like at Chelsea last weekend, Antonio Conte’s side started slowly. During the first-half, the home side were outshot 12-1, with Matheus Nunes and Ruben Neves both going close in a 45 minutes Wolves largely dominated.

Such was the disappointment in the ground, there were a smattering of boos from the home support as Tottenham trudged off to receive what was surely the most heated of hairdryers from Conte.

While the extent to which the Italian went in the dressing room will forever remain a mystery, what is certain is that it worked. From the off, Spurs were almost unrecognisable, with Dejan Kulusevski more involved and both Kane and Heung-min Son hitting the woodwork.

As the home side went through the gears, it seemed only a matter of time before the goal game. In the 64th minute it did, though largely out of nothing.

A dreadful Son (when does his underwhelming start to the season became a talking point?) corner saw Ivan Perisic – handed his first Premier League start - head a hopeful flick-on across the face of goal.

Kane, as he had been 249 times before, proved lethal. Ghosting in at the back post, another milestone was passed with a clever header.

For just a few hours’ at least, Spurs are top of the League without playing anything like their best. The future is exciting.
