You can only feast your eyes on the solar eclipse for minutes — but businesses are floating a smorgasbord of celestial specials for days.
Why it matters: Monday's rare total eclipse has become a major marketing event for restaurant chains and food brands across the country.
- After the April 8 eclipse, you'll have to wait until 2044 to spot a total solar eclipse in the contiguous U.S.
The big picture: Businesses are cashing in on the once-in-a-lifetime celestial event by offering fun eclipse-themed goodies or discounts. Some items come with free eclipse glasses.
- Product releases tied to the eclipse include a special Krispy Kreme eclipse doughnut, MoonPie Solar Eclipse Survival kits, Snapple's Elements Sun juice drink and Perfect Bar's new Chocolate Brownie flavor.
- Local coffee shops, bars, restaurants and breweries also have eclipse fever with a bounty of themed drinks and treats.
Zoom in: Expect some special products with space-themed company names to disappear faster than the eclipse.
- SunChips' limited-edition solar eclipse flavor — Pineapple Habanero and Black Bean Spicy Gouda — will only be available online for the "4 minutes and 27 seconds of the solar eclipse's duration of totality," starting at 2:33pm ET Monday.
- Blue Moon is selling Eclipse Sips Kits online starting at noon ET Wednesday to make beer "shimmer and glow."
