A Tory MP who demolished a telegraph pole when he crashed his car into it before fleeing the scene has been banned from driving for six months. Jamie Wallis, MP for Bridgend, grabbed his mobile phone and ran from the crime scene in high heels as concerned residents came out to see if he was okay after hearing the commotion.
The 38-year-old was driving his Mercedes E-class saloon on November 28 last year when the collision happened. At court this week, he referred to himself as transgender, after coming out on social media as the first trans Conservative MP in the UK.
Wallis said he had swerved to avoid a cat and left the scene because he had become "overwhelmed" by his recently diagnosed PTSD. He also told how he felt vulnerable as he was in women's clothing - having been raped the last time he wore such an outfit publicly.
