Tory grandee Ken Clarke has put the boot into Liz Truss saying he was gobsmacked when she became PM.

The former Home Secretary, Health Secretary and Chancellor said: “I was quite surprised she got into the Cabinet but then I was utterly amazed she became Prime Minister.

“The circus of politics for the last six years has become farcical and the low depths of farce were reached in the last six months until Rishi Sunak took over.”
