A tornado has hit the tourist hotspot of Marbella, uprooting trees and damaging property as a hospital worker was left injured by the freak weather event.
The twister barrelled in from the sea and struck the popular Costa del Sol resort on Monday, causing a trail of devastation after it hit late in the afternoon.
According to local news outlet El Pais, a worker at the Costa del Sol Hospital was left injured after the tornado passed.
The weather event left a trail of fallen trees, motorcycles lying on the ground, overturned containers, broken glass and damaged canopies.
The strong wind, which lasted barely a minute, was responsible for a number of incidents in the hospital.
Several windows had detached from the terrace of the hospital's main façade and two trees had fallen in the playground.
Several plates had also been detached from the ceiling of an office in the building, injuring a worker.
Meanwhile, two trees had fallen on cars, damaging six vehicles but not causing any injury to motorists.
Both fallen trees were in the centre of Marbella.
Local kiosk owner Marcela Romero told the Mail Online the incident was terrifying to watch.
"I saw several trees come down in a question of seconds and I thought I was going to be lifted off my feet," he said.
"It didn't last more than a minute but that minute was awful because everything moved."
And British holidaymaker Ryan Davis, who was in the area with friends on a golfing trip, said he had never seen anything like it before.
"It began tipping it down with rain and then all of a sudden the wind came from nowhere," he said.
He described watching things go flying in the air and taking shelter inside the nearest place that was open, because he was worried he was going to be hit by something.
A clean-up continued this morning.
