A tornado touched down in Jasper, Texas, causing serious damage to between 30 to 40 homes, as reported by Jasper County Judge Mark Allen. The tornado struck an apartment complex, a nursing home facility, and various homes on the western side of the city, as well as other buildings across Jasper County. The incident occurred around 12 p.m. ET, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
Judge Allen emphasized the need for a collaborative effort, stating, 'It’s an all hands-on-deck type of situation, and we will continue working on it.' Fortunately, there were only two minor injuries reported, with no fatalities resulting from the tornado.
In addition to the tornado, Tropical Storm Beryl brought high winds and heavy rain to Jasper, leading to widespread power outages. Thousands of customers in the city remain without power as a result of the storm. The Beech Grove Volunteer Fire Department is conducting multiple searches in the Shady Acres and Rosewood Subdivisions on the west side of Jasper, where extensive wind and tornado damage have been observed. Numerous houses have been impacted, with some being struck by fallen trees.
The community is coming together to address the aftermath of the tornado and storm, with local authorities and volunteers working diligently to assess the extent of the damage and provide assistance to those affected. Efforts are ongoing to restore power and ensure the safety and well-being of residents in Jasper and surrounding areas.
