Tories silent as key North Sea jobs claim undermined by oil and gas giant

The Tories' shadow Scottish secretary Andrew Bowie claimed approving the Jackdaw gas field would create 880 new jobs (Image: Andrew Milligan/PA)

ONLY 27 new jobs will be created if the UK Government approves development of the controversial Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea, according to its owners, despite Tory claims that it would create almost 900.

An environmental impact assessment filed by Adura – a joint venture between Shell and Equinor – states that if the Jackdaw field is developed then there will be “300 jobs on Shearwater”, an offshore oil and gas platform in the North Sea.
