'Tories don't deserve a single vote at local elections as cost of living crisis goes on'

The cost-of-living crisis is very real and growing increasingly urgent.

Over four million families are in poverty, a record number of people are using food banks.

Pensioners are forced to ride buses to keep warm and households are falling into debt because they cannot afford their rent or food.

A responsible and compassionate Government would be doing everything it could to try to help people through this financial storm.

It is this country’s misfortune we are lumbered with a Tory administration that is not only out of touch but also out of ideas.

The Tories’ attitude is summed up by Environment Secretary George Eustice who has told the hard-up to switch to value brands.

Not since Marie Antoinette suggested starving French peasants should eat cake has someone treated the public with such disdain.

Does the witless Mr Eustice not realise how insulting his comments are to someone who has seen their heating bill quadruple or is skipping meals so their children don’t go hungry?

Much of the country goes to the polls tomorrow for the local elections.

While Boris Johnson remains Prime Minister and people such as Mr Eustice are in Cabinet, the Tories do not deserve a single vote.

Simply brilliant

Sometimes the simplest solutions are simply the best ones.

A British company has designed a wind turbine that harnesses the breeze created by passing cars to generate electricity.

Once installed on lampposts they will produce enough power to run the street lights in the Shropshire town of Telford.

Able to appeal to motorists and environmentalists alike, it is the sort of ingenious thinking we need if we are to find sustainable ways of keeping the lights on.

Heaven for bid!

Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” shirt has sold for a record £7.1million.

It’s hardly a steal – unlike the Argentine’s infamous goal against England.
