Top-rated Bristol curry house receives 'incredible' support after break-in

Police are investigating after a popular curry house in south Bristol was broken into over the weekend. The owner of the Coronation Curry House in Southville has said he has been moved by the 'incredible' support he has received from the community.

In the early hours of Sunday (September 11), police have confirmed the door to the restaurant was smashed through and around £30 was taken from the till. Restaurant owner, Nilesh Bhosale told BristolLive that the cost to replace the door was most concerning, especially as he said it was the second break-in at the curry house in less than two weeks.

Mr Bhosale said: "When the incident happened in the morning on Sunday, my neighbours called me four or five times to make me aware and called the police as well. When I came at restaurant 2.30am, another neighbour came to ask and check how am I doing, and offered me help at 4am in the morning after the police had gone."

The curry house is currently the top-rated Bristol restaurant on Tripadvisor - a title it has retained for several years now - and has obtained more than 800 five-star reviews. It is hugely popular with local residents and holds glowing reviews for its authentic Indian cuisine and friendly staff.

News of the break-in was also circulated among local south Bristol Facebook groups that showed concern. One picture was shared online that appeared to show the door hanging open after forced entry.

Mr Bhosale said the support from the community had been "incredible". He added that several people had called and messaged him to ask if they could be of any help with some offering financial assistance for the broken door.

"The support from all lovely people really touched me. We are part of a society and we help each other and this incident proves it," he added.

In a statement to BristolLive, Avon and Somerset Police said: “We’re investigating following a burglary at a restaurant on Coronation Road at the weekend. Entry was forced into the property during the early hours of yesterday morning (Sunday, September 11) and a quantity of cash was taken from the till.

“We’ve reviewed CCTV from the restaurant and specialist crime scene investigators are due to examine the scene as part of our inquiry. Officers will also be carrying out house to house enquiries.

“Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious on the Coronation Road area between 2am and 2.30am yesterday is asked to call 101 and provide the call handler with the reference 5222219504.”
