Top news developments in Karnataka on October 24, 2023

1. Today is Vijaya Dashami, the finale of 10-day Dasara, which is celebrated as Nada Habba in Karnataka. In Mysuru, there will be Vijayadashmi procession marked by Jamboo Savari, with caparisoned elephant Abhimanyu leading the procession with a golden howdah carrying the image of Chamundeshwari. The procession will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and will start from the palace premises and reach Banni Mantapa. There is also Wadiyar’s private Dasara today. There are celebrations and processions in other parts of Karnataka too. At Shivamogga, an elephant chosen to take part in Dasara celebrations gave birth to a baby last night. The elephant has been shifted back to Sakrebail camp.

2. Police arrested farmers led by Kurubur Shanthakumar for attempting to block Mysuru-Bengaluru highway in protest against inadequate power supply.

3. Bigg Boss Kannada contestant Varthur Santhosh, who was arrested mid-show on October 22 following a complaint received by the Forest Department for allegedly wearing a tiger claw pendant inside the reality show, has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody. His bail plea will come up for hearing on October 25.

4. Investigations continue into the killing of Srinivasan alias Seenappa, an associate of Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara who was hacked to death by a gang of six assailants in Kolar district on October 23. He shared close ties with former speaker B. Ramesh Kumar too.

5. “24 Divine Lives Ahimso Parmo Dharma”, an art exhibition organised by Shantamani Kala Kendra in association with Jain (Deemed to be University) School of Design, Media and Creative Arts, will be held at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat on Kumarakrupa Road from 10.30 a.m. till 7.30 p.m.
