Top Neurologist Met With President Biden's Physician At White House

U.S. President Joe Biden departs the White House in Washington

A top neurologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center met with President Biden's physician at the White House earlier this year, as per White House records. Dr. Kevin Cannard, a Parkinson's disease expert, along with Dr. Kevin O'Connor and two others, convened at the White House residence clinic on Jan. 17.

Dr. John E. Atwood, a cardiologist at Walter Reed, was also present at the 5 p.m. meeting, as indicated by White House visitor logs. The fourth attendee remains unidentified.

This meeting coincided with Biden hosting House and Senate leaders to discuss Ukraine funding on the same day at the White House, according to the president's schedule.

Dr. O'Connor conducted a physical examination in February and affirmed that Biden was 'fit to serve' as president. He stated, 'President Biden remains a healthy, vigorous 80-year-old male who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the presidency.'

The physical examination included a neurological assessment that specifically ruled out Parkinson's disease, as confirmed by O'Connor.

Following a debate performance in June that raised questions about Biden's age and mental acuity, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre informed reporters that Biden had not undergone recent medical exams.

After Biden mentioned speaking with his physician post-debate, Jean-Pierre clarified that it was merely a 'verbal check-in' regarding a recent minor illness. She emphasized, 'He did have a short verbal check-in in the recent days about his cold, it wasn't a medical exam or a physical.'
