It’s about that time of year for MTV to celebrate the best of film and television.
Tom Cruise’s record-breaking box office blockbuster, “Top Gun: Maverick,” and binge-worthy series “Stranger Things” and “The Last of Us,” are the top nominees for the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards, with six nominations each.
Joining “Top Gun” in the best movie category are “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” “Elvis,” “Nope,” “Scream VI” and “Smile.”
Announced Wednesday, top nominees for TV include HBO’s “The White Lotus” and the Netflix “Addams Family” spinoff “Wednesday,” which each received four nods. “Wolf Pack,” “Yellowstone” and “Yellowjackets” are also competing for best show.
Among the leading nominees in the unscripted category are “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” “Vanderpump Rules” and “Jersey Shore Family Vacation,” with two nominations each.
MTV also rolled out new categories this year, too: best reality onscreen team and best kick-ass cast.
As for the show’s iconic best kiss award, those competing include Harry Styles and David Dawson in “My Policeman,” Anna Torv and Philip Prajoux in “The Last of Us,” Madison Bailey and Rudy Pankow in “Outer Banks,” Riley Keough and Sam Claflin in “Daisy Jones & The Six” and Selena Gomez and Cara Delevingne in “Only Murders in the Building.”
The 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards will be hosted by Drew Barrymore and broadcast from Los Angeles’ Barker Hangar 8 p.m. ET on May 7.
