Top Gear presenters describe Wales as 'magical' as presenters rave about the landscape

The Top Gear team couldn't stop marvelling at the “magic” of the Welsh countryside, as they tackled a HGV challenge in the show's most recent episode. Paddy McGuinness, Chris Harris and Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff drove alongside each other as they attempted to find out what it takes to be a HGV driver. Setting off on an adventure that took them across the United Kingdom, the group eventually found themselves in the Brecon Beacons in Wales. The team were spotted filming the series in Llanelli earlier this year.

“Look at this boys,” said Paddy as the group crossed the first Severn crossing into Wales. On the search of “proper open trucking roads”, the Top Gear gang had a challenging time navigating their HGV lorries through Merthyr Tydfil. Chris said: “This is tight,” upon making his way through the valleys town. Meanwhile, Freddie replied: “I feel like I’m on a constant hazard perception test.”

As the three drove through Abergavenny, Chris said: “If you stick with the trucking game long enough, every now and then, you will discover a little bit of magic.” That “magic” is highlighted as the three HGV lorries drove through the sweeping Welsh hills. Chris adds that “Wales is beautiful,” to the agreement of his co-presenters. Paddy comments: “This is proper,” as he basked in the Welsh landscapes.

“It is stunning though. What a day to see it. I know there’s a bit of wind knocking about but the sun’s out and it’s beautiful,” Freddie told the others as he climbed higher into the Brecon Beacons. Although initially un-phased by the wind, the group later find out how difficult it is to drive a HGV in the wind. When another lorry passes Chris, he is almost knocked off his path, which he describes as “horrible.”

The latest series of Top Gear has already been jam-packed with exciting challenges and reviews. So far, the trio have headed to America on a motorsport mission to the home of grassroots racing - Florida. In the next episode on Sunday (July 3), they will explore cars under £500.

Top Gear continues on Sunday, July 3 at 8pm on BBC One
