A top English Premiership match was halted for 10 minutes after a major injury deemed too awful to be replayed on TV.
Wasps lock Elliott Stooke suffered a 'serious lower leg injury' during an incident in the televised penultimate game of the season against Sale Sharks.
The giant lock landed awkwardly from the kick-off in the second-half and collapsed to the ground in agony as team-mates screamed at the referee to stop the game after they immediately realised the seriousness of the situation. Stooke's cries of pain were then audible on the referee's microphone.
Stooke received pain-killing gas as medics tended to him, with BT Sport deciding not to show any replays of the incident and focussing their cameras towards the crowd rather than the stricken player.
Commentator Nick Mullins said during the coverage: "We've looked at the replay and we have decided we are not going to show it. It's a leg injury and it is a horrible one and we will save you the discomfort of seeing it at home."
After the game, he added: "Thoughts with Elliott Stooke this morning. I guess there’s a hint of censorship about it when we occasionally take these decisions, but I promise you didn’t want to see the replay."
Stooke was applauded from the field by both sets of players as he was taken off on a stretcher.
In a statement on Saturday, Wasps said: "Wasps can confirm that Elliott Stooke sustained a fibula fracture in yesterday's Gallagher Premiership match versus Sale Sharks.
"He was taken to University Hospital (Coventry) and has since been discharged.
"A treatment and rehabilitation plan will be determined following further scans early next week.
"We would like to thank the pitch-side team for their work on the night and the staff at University Hospital."
Stooke, meanwhile, tweeted: "Massive thanks to all the Medical team last night @WaspsRugby and ambulance staff, as well as hospital.
"Back home and feeling positive about recovery process. I'll be back in no time."
