Top Edinburgh tourist attraction could be crowned best in UK at prestigious awards

A popular Edinburgh attraction is facing some stiff competition as it aims to be crowned one of the UK's best.

The Royal Yacht Britannia, at Leith shore, is up for two awards in the Remarkable Venue Awards, which were announced by online ticketing platform Tigets. The competition helps celebrate the best museums and attractions in the UK, along with eight other countries.

With the National Museum of Scotland typically being the most talked about in Edinburgh, there is no denying the historic Royal Yacht Britannia deserves some recognition compared to other global attractions.

The Record reports how the 20 UK nominees include the Tower of London, the British Music Experience, Crumlin Road Goal and Etihad Stadium. This year more than 200 nominees are competing to become one of the seven winners in each of the nine countries represented in the Remarkable Venue Awards.

The Royal Yacht Britannia was the former royal yacht of the British Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. After sailing around the world during its service, the ship is now permanently benched in the docks of Leith, where it attracts around 300,000 visitors each year and also serves as a luxury hotel.

The selection of the venues in these five categories is based on 1.1M+ customer reviews of venues on Tiqets.com, with The Royal Yacht Britannia going up for Best Museum and Best Onsite Experience.
