Arguably the top cornerback prospect in the 2023 NFL draft was in Ashburn Wednesday on a top 30 visit to the Washington Commanders. Devon Witherspoon, a popular target for the Commanders in mock drafts, visited the team Wednesday.
The 5-foot-11, 181-pound Witherspoon recently held a private workout at Illinois after he was unable to participate at the NFL combine. The Commanders were present at the workout, as senior director of player personnel Eric Stokes represented Washington.
It’s not surprising that the Commanders wanted to visit with the All-American cornerback. However, there’s a good chance that Witherspoon isn’t even on the board when the Commanders pick at No. 16.
Some mock drafts have Witherspoon going as high as No. 6. Witherspoon, along with Christian Gonzalez [Oregon] and Joey Porter Jr. [Penn State], are generally considered the top three cornerbacks in the draft.
Former Illinois CB Devon Witherspoon is in Ashburn today for his top-30 visit with the Commanders, per source.
