The Estrella Dam Top 50 Gastropubs has released its coveted list of some of the best venues in the country - many of which are within driving distance of Bristol. So, if you're on a mission to find your next favourite country pub serving some of the best food in the country, the region has a lot to offer.
While Bristol failed to get a mention in the top 50, Redland neighbourhood pub The Kensington Arms took a spot in the expanded top 100 list at number 80, described as a "country-style" gastropub serving up "new-era dishes". The destination pub was recently named by Observer Food Monthly readers as serving one of the best Sunday lunches in the country and is affiliated with Josh Eggleton’s hospitality empire, The Pony Restaurant Group.
If you're willing to drive slightly further afield there were two gastropubs in Devon who were named among the best 20 venues in the UK, according to the new guide. The Cornish Arms in Tavistock and Barnstiple's Pyne Arms are around a two-hour drive from Bristol city centre, praised for their simple, hearty pub grub and fine ales.
