By the time the 2024 NFL draft gets here, we should have a good idea of what position the team is targeting in the first round. Free agency will be done and we hope that several of the team’s top roster needs will be filled. But looking at the roster as a whole and leaving all options open, here are the five most realistic first-round picks for the Steelers.
C Jackson Powers-Johnson, Oregon
A strong week at the Senior Bowl has made it so our favorite pick for the Steelers is no longer an option in the second round. If things keep going as they have, Pittsburgh will need to hope that Jackson Powers-Johnson lasts until the No. 20 overall pick.
OT Amarius Mims, Georgia
Getting another elite Georgia offensive tackle would really solidify the offensive line and allow the Steelers to move Broderick Jones to the left side.
CB Ennis Rakestraw, Missouri
Rakestraw is a physical man coverage specialist who might be the best fit to pair up with Joey Porter Jr. on this defense.
DB Cooper DeJean, Iowa
DeJean’s potential to be an elite starting cornerback or safety makes him enticing for the Steelers who need an upgrade at both. DeJean is also a ridiculous athlete and return specialist.
DT T'Vondre Sweat, Texas
The wildcard in this group is T’Vondre Sweat. If the Steelers lose multiple defensive linemen in free agency, could see them going with Sweat here and give them the massive run staffer this defensive line lacks.
