Top 5 most valuable goalkeepers as Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale beats Liverpool's Alisson

Aaron Ramsdale has been named the world's most valuable goalkeeper.

The Arsenal shot-stopper has impressed since his £24million move from Sheffield United in 2021. Ramsdale quickly replaced Bernd Leno as the first-choice 'keeper and helped them to a fifth-place finish in his debut campaign.

However, Ramsdale has taken his game to a new level this term as the Gunners chased their first Premier League title since 2004. Although Manchester City pipped them to their third successive crown, Mikel Arteta is proud of his side and Ramsdale was key to their success, despite keeping just 14 clean sheets in 38 matches.

As a reward for his form, Ramsdale is now the most valuable 'keeper on the planet, according to CIES Football Observatory. The 25-year-old, who is set to sign a new four-year deal at the Emirates Stadium, has risen in value to £67.6million. This is more than double what Arsenal paid for him two years ago.

Back in April, Mikel Arteta lauded his goalkeeper. He said: "He has been really, really good and probably against the odds. Because when you look at his past and where he was coming from, he got relegated twice, it was difficult to imagine it.

"But we saw he had that character, charisma and personality to play for our club and he had the potential qualities to feed into our way of playing. When you see the development he had in the past two seasons I think he is exceptional."

Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Donnarumma is second behind Ramsdale, with a value of £64.7m, after he guided the French side to another Ligue 1 title. Donnarumma, 24, conceded 40 goals in 38 Ligue 1 matches and kept 13 clean sheets in the process as PSG secured their ninth title in 10 years.

Liverpool 'keeper Alisson is third on the list as he is valued at £57.4million. Alisson was one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League in 2022/23 and the Reds may have finished lower than fifth without the Brazilian, who kept them in matches when they were going through their tricky spell.

In fourth is Porto's Diogo Costa. The Portugal international has been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer but he confirmed he is hoping to stay at Porto. When asked about his future, Costa said: "That’s the internet. It is a happiness and an honour to play for my favourite club. What they say is what they say, there is nothing concrete, I have a contract until 2027 and I hope to continue, let's see."

Completing the top five is Ederson. The Manchester City goalkeeper hasn't been at his best this season and was dropped for the FA Cup final, with Stefan Ortega taking his place. Ederson has made 47 appearances this term, conceding 39 goals and keeping 18 clean sheets.
