Top 10 richest sports teams in America revealed as franchises rake in billions each year

Money is dominating the world of sport and none more so than across the pond in the United States where franchises are worth billion and billions of dollars.

American football, baseball, ice hockey and basketball teams are raking in millions and billions every year thanks to sponsorship agreements, TV deals and fans pumping their hard-earned cash into clubs. New research by Sidelines.io found that when analysing each team’s value, annual revenue and the total money spent on player payroll they could gauge how much each team is worth. It will come as no surprise to many that NFL teams fill the majority of the top 10 spots, with the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers breaking the trend.

A spokesperson for Sidelines.io said: "Sports in America has become a very lucrative business for investors and owners over the years. As popularity has grown and more money is being pumped in via sponsorships, TV deals and fans spending their money to watch their favourite teams play and rep their team's brand, it only entices more interest, from not just American fans and businesses, but global audiences and brands."
